Share Your Reading Life
In this reading, Routman explains how important it is to
Share your reading life as teachers. When we make our life explicit to our
students, their reading lives expand in many directions. This lets them know,
that they are not the only ones reading every week. Their teacher is also
reading what he or she likes and love to read. Also, it is ok to share what you
are reading to the students, because they may ask you questions about your
book. He also talked about how we can encourage
our students about what they want to read next. Having libraries in the
classroom and at home is very important too and of course it will increase the
students reading ability. They will have more choices to choose from in the
library. Last but not least, when students read for their own purpose
their test scores increase as well.
Isn't is awesome to know that if we provide lots of choice, materials, support, and enthusiasm towards reading and in our libraries, it can positively impact our scores on the standardized tests too? I can't wait to hear what you share with your kiddos!
ReplyDeleteHi Teresa,
ReplyDeleteI loved the author's suggestion in this chapter to share our reading lives with our students so that we can foster a love for reading in their lives too. What are some ways you want to do this with your kindergarten students? Thanks, Dawn
